About
On a site once named “one of the finest in the state” sits a former historic brick Exchange Hotel/Restaurant building. The former Coburns’ Exchange (and later, the Golden Hotel) was the most important spot in town, situated on the most prominent intersection – and closest to the all-important train depot whose business was the foundation of the town of Howard City, Michigan.

Almost 150 years later – many things have changed, including the construction of a new highway bypass (US 131, two miles away), but the Forager will bring back the past glory days as the Howard City go-to spot.
For us, it starts with the significance and history of the building and with the dedication to starting a restaurant doing everything the right way – and with and un-rivaled combined amount of energy to do so. We will draw from the history of the building in everything we do – creating a timeless architecture and interior design, with a sturdy and comfortable menu that will also keep creativity at the forefront – as well as hearty portions of comfort classic dishes.
We are three long-time friends with diverse business backgrounds turned restaurateurs – Brian, Kyle, and Bryan – and our mission is to serve and inspire.
We will put in place above-industry standards for design, operations, creativity and quality of food and service – leveraging the significant building history plus local talents and food-sources unique to the mid-Michigan area – to provide a new true local institution for people to meet, eat, and drink.
